Grandma's Love... Old Photographs

I love old photographs...
But this is probably my favorite.
This week my grandma passed away and joined my
grandpa.

Isn't it a beautiful picture?

I always thought my grandpa was the most handsome man in the world...

She was a factory worker and he was a mechanic.

She used to tell me about the bright red lipstick she used to wear and the pantyhose.
"The line up the back of your legs had to be straight and perfect... or the look was off
and if we didn't have the money for them, we painted the lines on our legs!"

Grandma was one of 14 and Grandpa was one of 13...
I have a LOT of cousins!
Friends went to her service and asked me who was family...
There were 60+ people there and I said proudly,
"Every single one!"

I love having a big family... The memories, the jokes!

There are five of Grandma's siblings left-
They all talk of their dancing and bowling days from so long ago!

:)

I promise my next post will be about buttons!
Have an awesome Columbus Day!

Sculpture Project! Twine, Balloons & Spray Paint!

Hello! I'm taking a sculpture course this year and wanted to
show you all what I was up to!

I've been sad that I haven't had the chance to blog...

But tie-dye balloons are AMAZING!

I couldn't stop blowing them up!
I used about half of the bag...

We were modeling Henry Moore's reclining figures

I taped all these lovely balloons together in an abstracted body-like figure.

Then I soaked Hemp Jute in Modge Podge!
Messy, messy, messy!

Complete balloon figure...

The jute didn't want to dry! Too cold and damp out!

Almost the finished product! I think I will spray paint it another color...
Perhaps I'll slather it in several acrylic colors! :)

I think the white is boring...

Ooh!! Red, Blue and yellow?

An abstract Odalisque!

More Buttons! And Whatever Else Grandma Stuck in There!

Took a little road trip to an old farmhouse...
And there was a quirky memory or story
hidden in every dusty corner!

The owners of the home told us about their mother's button box.
I know you all remember your mother's,
grandmother's or even great grandmother's!
Such a beautiful tradition to keep one...

At first, I saw all the mother of pearl buttons.
"They're a dime a dozen!"
But then...

A shoe heel?
A baby's diaper safety pin?
Belt buckles, earring backs, goofy springs!

And Jack's bean from the old tale, Jack and the Beanstalk!
This farmer's wife was the overall repairer and the garden tender...
How amazing :)

Newest Button Display: Moleskin Journals!

I love these antique metal buttons...
I found them amongst MORE buttons!

I think they will be perfect on some little Moleskin journals!

So many interesting things get mixed into old button boxes...
Shoe buckles, pins and beads, oh my!

Molecule/geek buttons!

I love glass buttons... and this one is a mirror!
These black beads go perfectly with...

Black lace. Need I say more?
This lace is probably from the late 1800's.
I can see it on a journal :)

Even blue lace! So much fabric and buttons!

This is the prettiest ribbon I've ever seen.
It is velvety feeling and two toned like silk velvet.
Have an awesome rest of your week!

Giveaway Winners and Sewing Buttons in the Sun!

I decided to go outside and sew some buttons in the lovely weather
while my momma mowed the lawn and did a little gardening,
(taking advantage of summer vacation!)

These teeny tiny buttons are glass... They completely
AMAZE me!

I've decided that my little Canvas Button Cards should be
more of what I find in my button box... This "thing"
I imagine on a lovely dress from way back when...
I just love it! And those little China buttons
(the five off to the right) are so, so small!

I finally got around to my giveaway and Marie from Spun By Me won the calendar...
and the Paper Pumpkin won my little crow!
Congratulations :)

More unique black glass...
So interesting and so detailed...

I will be listing these on my Etsy shop today
so keep a lookout for one you think is cute!

Have an awesome rest of your day...
I'm thinking of all of you and yours along the east cost as Irene hits!
